Ben & Jerry’s Marshmallow Moon – Ice Cream Sundays

Ben & Jerry’s Marshmallow Moon – Ice Cream Sundays

Happy Sunday ice cream fans. This week I have to share an experience that was little disappointing. I’ve always been a huge Ben & Jerry’s fan. Their pints have gotten me through some pretty tough times. So when I heard there was a “Special Stash” of Marshmallow Moon out there that you couldn’t purchase in stores, I became determined to try it.

The Special Stash is “a series of micro-batches that can’t be mass produced or widely distributed. Created purely for the love of ice cream with no concern for practicality,” according to BenJerry.com.

Marshmallow Moon was created in collaboration with Jimmy Fallon. Honestly, it doesn’t even sound that special. It’s just vanilla ice cream, marshmallow and graham cracker swirls, and fudge chunks. But I really wanted to get my hands on it.

My first attempt at scoring a taste of the hard-to-find ice cream was a fail. During Thanksgiving break, my sister and I went to the Navy Pier in Chicago to visit a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop. Unfortunately, they did not sell Marshmallow Moon and hadn’t even heard of it. And to make matters worse, when I ordered my double scoop of The Tonight Dough in a cone, they scooped it into a bowl and then just stuck a cone on top.

Between my manuving to create a double scoop cone, and the ridiculous wind in Chicago, the images turned out pretty awful. The experience was one I hope not to repeat in the future.

The good news is Ben & Jerry’s was able to redeem themselves when I went to NYC. After telling my sister-in-law about my disappointing Chicago experience, she called the Time’s Square Scoop Shop to make sure they carried this elusive flavor. They did and to make it even more special, I took some pictures of the pint at Jimmy Fallon’s studio. Funny thing is after all the hassle, by the time I tried Marshmallow Moon, it had all but melted and been refrozen. I still don’t know if it’s good.

So what’s the moral of the story here… You’re better off just getting your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor at your local grocery store. Get it home and into the freezer, or into your mouth to enjoy immediately. By the way, my favorite flavor is Phish Food. What’s yours?
